I would hug a girl, but a guy better accept a handshake, because he sure wouldn't get a hug from me.

My mother hugged me and my wife does plus some pretty ladies in the family. I know what they think. They think he is so old it won't bother him. I say hogwash but I will never tell them.

That wouldn't bother me either. What WOULD bother me is why a guy would want to hug me.

Happens often in church if we haven't seen someone in a while and they're good friends. Guys hug the pastors every Sunday. I'm on the Praise Team and it's not uncommon for someone to really love the music and they show their appreciation after a service by a handshake and hug. Now, these are all 'light shoulder hugs' for men, not the kind I give my wife! Not a big deal. Also happens a lot in sports when teams win big events. Now, some dude walking up to meet me for the first time - nope! Business meetings - nope!

Why worry about the hugs? It was a lovely and moving performance.

Depends on your culture I guess - OK, disclaimer: I'm Italian. Not uncommon for men to hug, and like David said, not the kind of hug you give your wife, but a friendly embrace or shoulder hug.

Oliver, you're right. If I was in that guy's presence and saw that performance and the history behind it, I would have given him a hug as well.

Geez, there are a lot of bigger issues in the world than men hugging each other.

My son married into an Italian family. Everybody hugs everybody, all the time. And they love to have a party, they celebrate everything. I didn't know that wine came in that big of bottles.
