That's kind of neat. Japanese planes are pulled, not pushed, which lets you put your back into it. This is pretty small, but the the price is sure right. I wonder how it would work for musical instruments?

The more I do, the less I accomplish.

Buy a 5 dollar plane and you get a 5 dollar plane!

Ive never successfully gotten an order fulfilled with aliexpress . I’ve heard of others who have though .
I laughed ,as I wanted linear rails from Ali, and the shipping was the same price as the linear rails

I got one off of evilbay, same thing, about 10 cents more I believe, and free shipping. Not tried it yet, but one day. Should work well enough, once sharpened.

Got a spokeshave too, about the same price, and looks like the expensive ones. Don't know if I will ever use it or not, but wanted one anyway.

I consider them both well worth the money.

Got a cheap plug cutter awhile back too. Will need plugs for a future project, and figured I'd get one to see how it works out for that. I think it should work fine, or at least hope so, but HSS steel, so don't know how long it will last. But, that's fine if it wears out fast, because if it actually works like I hope, I'll get a high quality version later. And, if it doesn't work as hoped, won't be out much. Some times it pays to buy cheap tools first.

My guess it is carbon steel for that price, may even be mild steel.

Yeah, suppose could be, but looks nice. However, I don't really care - even if it only cuts 3 decent plugs, that will tell me I can go ahead and buy a high quality version. Proof of concept is all I am after, tool life is immaterial in this case. Beats buying an expensive version, then finding out it won't do what I want.

Out of curiosity I Googled the company name and it showed the same tool for $12.95 and $9.95 (?). The first thing I noticed is what appeared to be Chinese characters on the same tool (missing on the original ad) and found they are out of Hong Kong. Oddly it says their "Head office " is in Israel. But for $4.95 that's not much to loose. The Googled info shows a lot of other hand tools. In their pictures they had a cell phone laying beside the tool for size comparison. The wedge for the blade looks like the wood is pretty loose grained indicating cheap wood but if the steel is good you can make your own plane body. They make just about everything. Maybe Harry will volunteer to be our "research" department to buy & test the tool. lol

Nah, hand tools haven't been my thing for many years. It's good to see you here again, I haven't forgotten the computer lessons that led to my being able to post zip and pdf files.
