Default Full story on this automaton and those that followed

While I cannot view the posted video, I have just completed reading the story of this creation, and two others that improved on this design, in the NAWCC (National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors) bulletin for this month (Sept/Oct 2018). it can be viewed on the www.nawcc.org website, under publications (on-line version) starting on pg 414. There is an-depth explanation of the operation of the cams and the interactions of the multiple (cam)shafts+ wonderful close-up photos. Take a few minutes and check it out.

How anyone designed and built such a machine without computers and CNC machines so long ago is amazing. I doubt that there are may people alive today who could build one from scratch even with the help of computers and CNC machines.

Thanks for posting this. I downloaded the PDF of the article and it is amazing he built The Writer but he also built The Draughtsman that draws line art.

Wow. I'll bet a lot of people considered that downright spooky at the time.

Someone I consider a master woodworker once told me that a master woodworker is not someone who never makes mistakes. He is someone who is able to cover them up so that no one can tell.
