Default Not a good start to 2019

Well all, I have probably mentioned I lost the vision in one eye due to a reoccurring herpes virus .
All was actually going quite well ,and the virus stayed put after I got a corneal transplant decades ago.

FYI, I have to avoid led lights like the plague, as the herpes virus comes out of remission after I have exposure to them .

Go back two years . I visit my neighbors for Christmas dinner . Eye starts burning to the point I had to leave . Find out later that the son had given mom led lights as a Christmas present .
I was unaware they had just installed them at the dinner table . Cornea is basically destroyed by virus again , from 20/50 to less than 20/200 .
Vision wasnít great before, but now being in sunlight is more painful then ever , even with high end serengeti sunglasses .

Now things get worse . I went to the neighbors for Christmas dinner again (they removed led bulbs for me ) , but I get a terrible cold that there passing around .
Two days ago both eyes start burning for no apparent reason in the evening .
Wake up in morning only to see damaged eye crusted shut, and healthy eye red and burning with vision loss .
Went from 20/30 in healthy eye to 20/100 .
Sat in emergency for half the day and they dispatched my eye specialist.
Finds thereís an entirely new virus (not herpes) on both eyes now .
Unfortunately thereís a newly developed ulcer on what was a perfect healthy cornea on my healthy eye 12 hours prior.

Thereís nothing that can be done other than suppressing drugs and letting it run itís course .
Some vision returned today, but not even close to 20/30 . The really bad news is , sunlight is absolutely painful even with sunglasses . I guess having both eyes with scarring is going to be one hell of a problem driving , even with corrective lenses , as Iím pretty much blind in sunlight .

Guess all I can do is wait it out and see whatís left . Like the title says , not a great start to the new year .
I donít think itís unrealistic to think I may have my drivers license taken away soon .
I canít really drive regardless like this , (been told not to for now ) and donít want to endanger anyone .
The unfortunate part is , I was getting a package from work in August when I get layed off , and wanted to start a home business .
Iím looking at worse case , but I can see where it may be time to liquidate everything and throw in the towel .
Disability pays very little with our plan , and everyone here so far has lost there homes when confronted by a heath burden .
Such is life

I donít always insulate , but when I do .
Ok ,I never insulate

My prayers Rick. I too had to quit driving not from vision lost but from random black outs and seizures from a stroke.

Like I say I’m jumping the gun. Hopefully my healthy eye recovers , but I can feel the scarring when I blink , plus there’s the vision loss .
The specialist was claiming it’s rare to lose vision from this virus, but in rare cases it can.

Wish I could remember what the heck it was called so I could google it

So sorry to hear about this, Rick. We'll keep you in our prayers asking that this works out for you and that your vision returns.

Darn Rick. Wish there was something more I could say besides, hope for the best, and prepare for the worst.

Seriously, and Iím not exaggerating, but itís almost impossible for me to get threw Christmas.
I absolutely hate Christmas, because it is always when things hit the fan . I always pray Iím going to get threw unscaved , but never do.
I even told the specialist this a month ago , and it happened just like clockwork .

I kind of wish I never posted this thread ,but was just steamed at the time .
Right now blinking is painful . To me that only means one thing , the eyelid is rubbing on an ulcer .
Going to hit the hay and see how is is tomorrow. Maybe things will be improving, as they did a little today

Geez, Rick, that's brutal. You should be able to access any lab work done, online. Seems like everyone else around here does it regularly...I just never bothered.

In the Vancouver Coastal Health area this applies:
Request a health record

I'm assuming you have the same process in your district(?).

Ya itís funny how things can go south in an instant . I talked to the specialist this evening and still canít understand what he called this exactly. Iíll be seeing him later in the week I believe and find out then. Not like it matters ,as all viruses leave permanent scarring .
Hopefully things get better and Iím all paranoid for nothing . Being in sunlight today was terrible though .
Guess I gotta wear my welding helmet when I go out
