Question Flag Box Designs

When Ken's dad passed, it was decided among his siblings that Ken would get his dad's flag, even though he isn't the oldest. This is flag #2 that we have (because) I have my dad's flag.

To get to the point; after the funeral, our daughter Amanda, tells us that we need to come up with a flag display box that will hold three flags, because when Ken and I are gone, she wants one place to keep all three of the flags that she will be inheriting. (Ken being a vet, will get the flag as well, making it three that she will have.)

Both of our dads were in the Navy, and Ken was in the Army. I want to be able to have each of the sections labeled with who's flag, when they served, and their branch of service.

Ideas?

Do a quick Google search for Flag Case Plans and you will find lots of options. Here's a quick video showing the build.

Woodsmith did a nice video on a flag box that sat on a 3 legged table top. Pretty sure you can find their plan on their site or in a back issue for their season 12.

Another option might be how you display them3 in a row. Or two horizontal with one vertical on top of the other two with a fourth case with their pictures on display inside. That would form a triangle. This is assuming that all three flags are the same size. Most cases I've seen have a glass over the flag, even if they have a hinged wood top. If they're on display, I'd go to a frame shop and order some UV retarding glass. You need to have the box plan or the box itself for exact cutting of this glass. You don't want that flag to fade or to gather dust or greasy fingerprints.

One thing I liked about the Woodsmity box was the lid opened and there was room under the top to mount a picture and a bit of a story about the man. You can't lay that on a displayed flag or eventually acidic paper will either stain/bleach the flag or cause the uncovered parts to fade.

The more I do, the less I accomplish.

Barb, tons of variations out there. Only found one 3 flag design tho, and didn't really care for it. Separate cases? Or all in one? I think if it were me I would make separate cases, then join them with hinges. Maybe. Or just stand them separate. Here are a few I thought were pretty good. Except for the 3 flag one. I added the next to the last one because it includes a photo. It also has borders around the medals, which I think is not called for. One a couple of spaces above it is almost the same, except it does not have the borders and does not have a photo. Otherwise I think I like that one best.

I know how to build a single box, Tom, looking for ideas for three in one box to display. All of my searches have yielded for only one.

Thanks for the input, guys. What I would like to do, is have one case, partitioned for each flag. I'll sit and work on it some more.

P.S. Contractors are due here at any time to get my Workshop underway! Siding was delivered Saturday by Lowes. WHOOP WHOOP!!!
