Talking The Latest in Barbie's World

As I said in my last post, didn't get much done over the last month; but I did finally get my screens completed in the last couple days of my vacation. After getting the last one done, I came to the conclusion that I should have done the first two like I did the last one. (I did the last one with 45 degree cuts - they went together ALOT better than the first two... but - I was following the recommendation of someone who's supposed to be a pro - what a ... nm.) Oh well. They're all done, and functional. I made the two that go on the front door to where I can open the one side to get in and out. Gonna get the one on the side door hinged so I can actually use it, too, but it was originally supposed to be just a screen frame.

I got a couple signs cut, but looks like I only took one picture. I'll try and get others soon as I can.

And finally, the concert I was telling you about - Friday was my birthday - a month ago our daughter comes over and says "Mom, sit down I have something to tell you..." The only thing I could think was "PLEASE don't tell me you're getting married to that @$$ you're dating!!!" Well, luckily, her news was that she had gotten me tickets to see Ted Nugent in concert at DTE. To me, this wasn't all that great of news, since I don't do concerts, and haven't been to one since I was 12 years old. Dang! The Pontiac Silverdome was only 4 years old when I went to my first/last concert! I don't like concerts, have no desire to go to them, and I don't like people! (In that setting - they get stupid, have no common sense, nor do they have consideration for others!) Anyway, she explains that she tried to get us to one that wouldn't have so many people, but those tickets were like $300/pc. so she thought "if Ted is playing there, he's GOT to be at DTE!" and got these tickets for the day after my birthday (the 31st). Now the fact that she tried for the smaller venue says she knows I hate crowds and buttheads... oh well. We went, I had two drinks at the lounge, (she got us VIP tickets which include passes to the lounge) and the music was good. Didn't appreciate the buttheads who couldn't control their bladders and/or had to keep going to get after drink after drink.. seemed like all I did was get out of my seat to let others out all night. Definitely got my exercise in that night Got some decent pictures, and even a couple videos. I'd post the hat I got (it says *Re-elect that M - F'er*!) but I won't Those hats, as people saw them, you saw more and more of them! Also got a "Ted Nugent for President" bumper sticker I plan on putting up in the workshop somewhere **

So there you have it... what's going on in Barbie's World... kinda boring. I'll post pictures of the downdraft table probably next weekend. It's been a learn-as-we-go type project that had a few twists and turns in it, but looks like it's starting to come together. (I'll try and do a video if I can; but it will be a slide show with narration. I've taken pictures as we went along, so I can at least do that).

I haven't been to a concert in 30 years. Lost a lot of my hearing at a Beach Boys concert I was photographing for a paper even longer ago. Big problem for me is the small venues. Most musicians are deaf so they crank up the volume so you can get deaf as well. Nugent is a non druggie musician at least. My last concert was a reggae, so the atmosphere was, well, ripe.

Like the screen doors. Makes the shop look very homey too. The sign is great as well.

Happy Birthday, Barb, Great job on the screens and sign. You have a good looking shop there. I feel the same as you about crowds and concerts.

Never been to a concert, and if my luck continues never will. My sister went to see the Beatles once. And that's all she did. The entire audience was apparently all girls, and they screamed so much no one could hear any music at all. Shop is looking good. It'll fill up soon tho.

The one and only time I was at a concert was about 8 years ago. My daughter talked me into it so we drove the 600 km. to Montreal from Oakville (about 7 hours) and spent the weekend. The concert I could have done without but I did enjoy being with my daughter all weekend. We toured around to different sites and had a good time. We stayed in the Montreal suburbs and took the subway in. I was somewhat surprised by the difference in cultures and the manners displayed, on the subway and the city in general. The Francophone approach to life, to me, seemed much more like living, as opposed to Toronto which always seems like business, business, business. Must be another difference between British and French. I'm glad we're bilingual.

Hope you had a great Birthday.

Love the screens. I need to do something similar to the double doors in my shop.

Great sign Barb, and so true. Makes me want to see that other one.
