Default Visiting my daughter´s family.

Hi guys.
Last thursday, by 00 am, I arrived to Chicago to pay a visit to my grandkids in Goshen, Indiana. It was a very long trip with humiliating situations at every customs entrance. Now I passed over three countries (Colombia, Panamá and USA) to arrive to my final destination. At O´Hare airport I was retained for almost three hours by U.S. Customs and Border Protetion officiers for some interviews. Finally, I got an entrance permit until December the 1st.
All those uncomfortable moments were overcome when I saw and hold Keity and her family. Now I am happy.

I am so glad you made it, Alexis, and hope your visit is the best.I can imagine how the security checks can be so intimidating, the last time I flew, inside the country too, I was frisked 3 times before boarding each flight, The last time I was one of the first in line, and last one to board the plane. guess I have the look of the terrorist. HAHA
Now you can relax and enjoy your family.

I bit the bullet a few years ago and applied for the Known Traveler program of the TSA. Haven't traveled out of country for some time, so don't know if this will affect customs. But I think my retired status should be better than my consultant status was when I tried to enter Canada some time ago. Got turned back. There's a meeting up there I may go to next April, so I'll find out soon enough. Better check my passport too.

Hi, Herb.
Thank you for your welcome.
I have traveled for several countries in the world and this is the first time that I live this kind of situation. I know that customs officiers have to do their jobs but, this time, maybe due to the venezuelans situation, they were much more rigids.

Unfortunately, I think you are correct. Glad you made it though.

If you travel outside of the US regularly, Global Entry is worth every penny. Whenever I come back through customs at Dulles airport, I am through immigration before the luggage is on the conveyor belt.

It's a big deal when one of those A380s land, you can be in the regular line for 40 minutes

From what I have heard, there are no consistent "rules" from one US airport to another. A website showed some humorous photos taken at airports. The one that really disturbed me was the TSA person playing solitaire on the computer instead of watching the people go through the scanner. Once I forgot to take my key out of my pocket. The buzzer went off and I was literally dragged to a machine to see if I has explosive residue on my hands. Should have gone to the restroom and not washed my hands! Let them clean it up!

I have an artificial knee so I get pulled over for extra screening at every airport. What was odd was when was when I was flying out of Ft McMurry every 3 weeks one winter. It’s a small airport so I kept seeing the same security people every time. When the scanner would ring I’d look at them and say “Yeah, it’s still artificial” and they’d check me again anyway.

Anyway Alexis you are probably right about the Venezuelan influence at customs but you made it through so enjoy your stay and the break you’ll have from the bad conditions at home.

Someone I consider a master woodworker once told me that a master woodworker is not someone who never makes mistakes. He is someone who is able to cover them up so that no one can tell.
