Not a clue what he was talking about. But that's not a problem, because I won't be looking for another TV until my present one dies, and it's almost brand new.

Very interesting, Harry. We still have the Sony 60" LCD I bought new in 2001 for $5,000. I have changed the lamp out one time and everything is still working so no changes any time soon unless this one bites the dust.

I went from a 1080 65” plasma to a 65” LG OLED and the difference is improved immensely.
Now what I can tell you is buying a 4K player and 4K movies has been a joke.
I have Alien Covenant in both Blu ray and 4K , and for the life of me I cannot see any improvement in pixel wise . Maybe theres an improvement in hdr or colour ,but I can’t see it .
But a Blu Ray is being upscaled by the tv itself , and it seems to look the same. I also heard CGI is only in 2K, so they make the movie then upscale to 4K just as your tv did , that’s probably why you don’t see much of an improvement.

Now to 8K .
Comparing an 8K LCD to 4K OLED is apples to oranges . I don’t find the test on that video of any value whatsoever.
Our local store had a 2K Oled sitting beside a 4K lcd , and you could not see an improvement with the lcd on a 65” screen.

If he would have had an 8K OLED , I suspect the 8K would have shown better definition if viewed on a large enough screen ,like an 80 or 90”.
The bad news is if the content was a 4K movie , your pretty much upscaling 2K to 8K anyways , so I’m not sure how much improvement you’d notice .
If you owned an 8K video camera , I’m sure you’d see a difference.

I donít always insulate , but when I do .
Ok ,I never insulate

No problem with my TV, just the lousy programming. If I had a choice, I would only watch 9 or 10 channels. The rest don't interest me.

We just use ours to watch DVD and Blu-ray movies. We cancelled TV service 4 or 5 years ago because we realized we had not watched any TV show in years, so why pay for it...? And our old LCD TV handles movies just fine although there's a little ghosting if you want to look for it. When we go to Best Buy (like once a year) and see the 4k TV's we're just blown away by how vivid and sharp they are... but not enough to buy one.

The ideal viewing distance from a TV is about the distance diagonally from corner to corner. That is also true of a normal lens in a camera, so if you get it too large, you're seeing mostly the central area and in the periphery (more that 15 degrees off center), your ability to perceive detail is non existant. In fact acuity is below the level where they cancel your driver's license.

The more I do, the less I accomplish.

I reckon that it's similar to top end audio, once you reach a certain standard of fidelity we see the law of diminishing returns where for a tiny improvement, not discernible to most, the cost goes up dramatically.

My speakers cost 11K plus . Centre channel alone was $2300 . And I agree with what your saying , as itís only a marginal amount of improvement over a two thousand dollar 5.1 speaker system
