The ones that I showed are for DRILLING dowel holes dead centre.

The only pencils I sharpen anymore are some colored ones I use on some of my designs. Otherwise I have used mechanical pencils for years. The lead may make a faint, hard to see, line on some wood, but easy enough to mark it again. I am quite satisfied with the results.

Or, instead of a pencil, you could put in a sharp metal point, and scratch a line. I prefer pencils tho.

I think they are for drilling holes for dowels in timber, not drilling holes in centre of dowels?
