Don't need one, but simple to make one. However, at times think about making something similar, except with a pencil in the center, so I could mark the exact center of a board along the whole length.

@JOAT ,
Theo, I have made one, but found that the pencil point was not always centred - depended on the sharpening. Any suggestions?

The ones that twist to extend the lead work best. They don't push back in as you're drawing the line. But they aren't necessarily the same diameter as most wooden pencils. You can center a regular pencil lead by putting it into a drill and angling the point against sandpaper. You can also make the point a wider angle that way.

I represented a plastic molder who had that same thing about 25+ years ago. Should have got one for a "sample." I buy the holes and glue them in.

I have one from Rockler, but centering in these requires a well built pencil with a fine point and dark lead. I use the orange pencils you get in a tube at Home Depot, they are round, not hex shaped so center well.. A good pencil sharpener will also help center the point. Any error is going to be trivial.
