Default Interesting documentary

I am not in the habit of recommending any TV programs or documentary films but I thought this one might be of interest because of the wood working skills demonstrated. Proenneke not only built his cabin but lived alone there for almost 30 years with minimal outside support and visits. Enjoy.

If this is not an appropriate post the I trust the Mods will take it down.

“Alone in the Wilderness” is the story of Dick Proenneke living in the Alaska wilderness. Dick filmed his adventures so he could show his relatives in the lower 48 states what life was like in Alaska, building his cabin, hunting for food and exploring the area.Aug 29, 2019

I have seen that several times, Jon, and love it. When I was growing up that was a boys dream when we were young.

Looks interesting. Here is a snippet of it.

Someone I consider a master woodworker once told me that a master woodworker is not someone who never makes mistakes. He is someone who is able to cover them up so that no one can tell.

Believe you are correct Herb. At the end of the one I watched on OPB they mentioned that the cabin and land had been turned over to the forest service. Certainly would be a shame to see it go to waste.

I have seen this several times on PBS and I love it. If I was younger and had no Diabetes, I would attempt this lifestyle change. AH ! peace and nature !

The book that came out, "Go North Young Man" was the one I remember about a fellow that went to Alaska and did the same thing. He built a green house to raise vegetables year around. My brother read that and when he was out of College and quit a good job as a Chem Engineer sold everything except what he could get in his car and headed for Alaska. He lived there the rest of his life.
