Default Australian shipping question

Got an order from Solomontown SA Australia off my Etsy store. I offer free shipping (USA only) for $50 for the item. Cheapest shipping I found was $64 (not including the $6 +/- GFT or whatever it is). You guys down under and up over have any secrets or is that the way it just is?

Shipping from the States is crazy,it usually costs twice the value of the item depending on how quickly you want it delivered. Tyranny of distance John.Sorry about that. James.jj777746.

Jon, I sent an identical item to Australia and to Canada, it cost less to Australia and got there almost a week sooner than the one to Canada, and the one in Canada is only about 100 mi away.

How big is the item.

I used to have forum members take delivery at their address, and then send on to me via UPS...

Your postal service must have had another Boo! Canada day. They're infrequent but nasty.

I just checked one of my items, a $50 item weighing about 2 lbs. and the cost for shipping to Australia is $56.15 using Etsy USPS shipping. This is the Etsy discounted cost over going to the post office. Pricey, yes.

What about Shippo or Pirate Ship?

You'd think it would be cheaper, heading down to Oz, what with gravity helping...

Is this something that you could ship via a traveler, then have them post when they arrive in Oz. Not sure if they're doing that anymore.

The more I do, the less I accomplish.
