Default E-mail threat from woodworking channel

Anybody get an e-mail from [email protected] delete it. Don't open it. It hijacked some of my settings, and took a while to clean my computer up.

Did it attack simply by opening the email or did you have to click on something? Do you get your email by going to yahoo.com or do you use Outlook or Outlook Express?

No attached file, and I go directly to yahoo for my e-mail. I never use outlook. It was pretty strange. I would click on a desktop icon and all of them from the first to where I clicked would highlight. Firefox would only type in uppercase and the . was > like the shift key was always pressed.
I used registry mechanic and a scan with AVG to get rid of the problem.

I left a message on the WWC forums but I doubt it will do much good. There doesn't seem to be many people visit them, plus they're a PITA to use.

Thanks for the heads up Mike.

As a notice to all users, it is never wise to post your email address on forums or public places on the internet without somewhat protecting it. For example:

Your email address: [email protected]

Instead of directly posting it in a forum message or comment like this:

"Hey, contact me at [email protected]"

You should always protect it best you can by using something similar to the below message:

"john.doe(at)domain[dot]com"

Feel free to be as creative as possible with your modifications to the "@" and "." characters, "(-at-)" or "[d0t]", anything works. The spam bots that crawl websites and collect these email address cannot identify your email account if you are creative with your defacing it as an email address.

That's a good point Mark. I never do that, and suspect that my address was gleaned from the members list.

I have found a continuing problem with the My Documents folder. In thumbnail view, the folder names don't appear. There are also some icons that have been mucked up. Such as a .html file having a ? icon instead of the Firefox icon. More work to do.

EDIT:
I did a system restore from yesterdays' system check point. It restored folder names in My Documents.
