Question Router + Modem?

Hi everyone!

I gonna buy this router TRENDnet TW100-S4W1CA, but I'm not sure if it can connect directly to my broadband port or I have to buy another modem. This is because I don't understand what they write in the manual: "Connected and linked to a Cable/xDSL Modem".

So my questions are: - Does this "Cable" mean RJ-45 cable? - Can I use the router without modem?

I'm appropriate with any help and advice!
Thanks,

Hi nothingness:

The routers on this forum is the woodworking routers, not computer routers.

Thanks,
The short answer is NO, you need a modem. The router just lets your various network components connect with each other and share the broadband connection. You still need the modem to connect to your broadband provider.

You can get a combo unit like this one:

They can be worth the extra expense if you're running out of outlets on your power strip for all the little transformers.

Hope this helps,

Doug
