Exclamation Be carefull with rogue software!!

I need to warn everyone that there are rogue spy ware sights that put a benign virus or other threat, and then block you from downloading help. I had it happen last night while checking out a few woodworking links. I got a message that i had been attack, and then when i studied it, that it said it was planted. I don't remember the exact message. It told me to download a certain program for $59.00 I believe that could remove all threats. It then blocked itself from my own protection on my computer, and it didn't report it. I took a risk of sorts, and searched the INTERNET for the name, (total security.) Thats when i found out it was a hoaxes Total Security is Dangerous Rogue Spy ware. Read How to Remove It Here Check it out, and prepare yourself with a solution before it happens to you. Check out (total securities and prepare before it happens.

I hope this isn't a link you found on RouterForums.com, if so please inform me of which link it was and I'll censor the URL from our servers. I'd prefer you private message me the URL to prevent the chance from anyone accidentally clicking it.

No, Thats not the case. To be honest, i am not sure when, or how i happened upon it. I was looking at some woodworking tools, and went to U-Tube, and got it when looking around. And its gone now, But it's hard to control

All you need is Firefox and the AdBlock extension. Enable the pop-up blocker, and you're safe from the oldest type of scam on the internet.
$59 is an expensive lesson.

Thanks! When it happens, You are taken by surprise. My main concern is that everyone inquire with a search (total Security), and take the necessary steps to download the remedy, or the software to kill it. My point is that it is not necessary to pay for anything,if you check it out, and get the information to remove any threat.

There are a lot of these floating around out there. You get some popup window that tells you you have X number of viruses, and it will say something like click here to run a complete scan, or click here to remove them. DO NOT click anything in the window, even a close button if you see one. Either close the window with the X control or close it from the start bar. Sometimes you will get another popup window immediately after you close one. The best thing to do in this case is to use the ctrl+alt+del command to get to task manager and use that to close ALL your browser windows. Once you get hit with one of these you will be plagued with pop up windows and your security software will either stop working or ignore them. You won't be able to navigate to any security sites to download fixes. You have to restart in safe mode and run your security software to try to clean them. You can start in safe mode WITH networking if you need to download a fix.
I've managed to avoid these but have fixed lots of computers that weren't so lucky.
