that a husband's job is never done. The mixer tap (faucet?) on the hand basin in our en-suite has been getting tighter and tighter to operate during the past few weeks, so today, without any prompting from you know who, I decided to fix the problem and whilst the stop tap was off it seemed a perfect opportunity to change the under sink filter cartridge in the kitchen which should have been changed at least half a year ago.

Is that just a particle filter or is it something clever (RO, Anion/Cation exchange)?

I'm no expert so I'll read off the label:

0.6micron nominal filtration
High chemical adsorptive* capacity
Service life greatly extended by a prefiltration medium
Superior fine sediment and silt control filter

I'm sure that you are as wise as me now! It's "made" by Stefani, an Australian company, but I'll take bets that it's actually made in China.

*that's how it's spelt (spelled?) on the label

It certainly works, the water tastes totally different to that coming out of any other tap in the house.

adsorb means contaminants stick to the surface of the filter, as opposed to absorb which would mean the contaminants are drawn into the filter (like and absorbent sponge, etc).

gotta love the language... to opposite meanings only one letter difference!

Thanks Doug., I thought that it was a misspelling so didn't even consider looking it up in a dictionary.

All you have to do is buy the wrong kind once and you won't forget the definition..... and that is not second hand information!
