In this world of security requirements being the highest priority, we are bombarded with personal information requests on a daily basis. Good grief our government knows more about us than we do about ourselves. To get a credit card, video store rental card, security pass, to name a few. We give our information out or we do not pass their requirements and are declined.
I always like to know who I am talking to and from where,,, just me being inquisitive and it does help to answer the question. The one thing I did notice about other sites and that is how impersonal they were. I did choose this site because of the open friendly manner in which everyone participated.
I do respect a persons right to fill something out or not, but if the site asks a question as part of the sign up then maybe it should be mandatory to be filled or removed from the sign up. To me, then it becomes a choice and I personally am proud of my name and where I am from. I just can not find a logical reason that the information asked is anything but useful to this site and our membership in answering questions in an intelligent correct manner.
As I raised my 5 children I have always told them the more base knowledge they possess the better the answer will be. I was once told by a boss that I was always right,,, based on the information I had. So my lesson from this was get as much information as you can, so you can have a correct intelligent answer. Just my thinking!
This has to be about more than whether you give your given name, location or not, I guess there is a need to find the middle road.
Just my opinion!
Cleaning my glasses will not make me look any better, but will make what I'm looking at better!
