Default Iíve taken Grizzly off of my buying list

I made my first purchase at Grizzly this week and it turned out to be a big mistake. I bought and just received a brand new T21636 iVac Switch Box from Grizzly and it immediately trips when I turn it on. I have it plugged into two separate circuits so the Harbor Freight Dust Collector is on its own 20 Amp breaker. I thought it was rated at 15 amps but then realized it was only 12 Amps after reading it in the box. When I contacted Grizzly about returning it so I can buy the 20 amp model they just said ďNO I canítĒ.

Now what kind of customer service is that? If I had bought it anywhere else, I could have returned it as long as it was within the specified time limit. They should have made it clear that all purchases are final before I bought it. I just canít think of anyone who doesnít take returns except for a few on eBay, but I donít believe that counts.

I just returned a box full of unusable dust collection fittings to woodcraft.com with no questions asked and I can tell you this, Woodcraft will have my business for now on.

most companys will not return electrical parts because many people don't know how to hook them up corectly. Go purchase a part for your car or a part for a computer and try to return it they will all tell you the same. I have returned other parts to Grizzly with no problems.

Ray is correct. It's almost universal that retailers do not accept returns on electrical components. Maybe the fact that you tried to exchange it for something else may have had something to do with it. If you had tried to exchange it for the same model, they might have done it.

I looked at Grizzly's site, and couldn't find a 20 amp model.

I have dealt with Grizzly many times, and have always been happy with their products and CS.

I'm not positive but I think this is the first complaint the forums has had about Grizzly. Johnny, as mentioned electrical components are often not returnable. You might consider using the switch on a shop vac dedicated to your sander, most will work fine with the 12 amp circuit.

hi Jim,

Iím still a little upset about this and have not checked to see if Grizzly had the 20 amp, but I saw it on Amazon. iVac Switch Box. Amazon.com: iVac Pro Tool 115 Volt - 20 Amp #T11520NA: Home Improvement

What makes me mad it that they didnít give any explanation about electrical items. They just said ďNO I CanítĒ. I think if there is going to be such a policy on electrical items then it should be labeled as such. Iíve returned lots of electrical stuff at Lowes, Home Depot and other stores. I have seen signs say that circuit breakers are not returnable, but itís the sign is right where the breakers are kept.

This is a sealed box with plugs on it and I can understand if the cord was cut with a saw or something but it hasnít even been used.

If I would have noticed the 12 Amps, I would never have bought it, Actually I did look for it, but went to the iVac website to see what the rating was and they had it listed as 15 amp. Someone else here had measured their Harbor freight Dust Collection as 15 Amp so I went with it. I knew it would be close, but I didnít see the 120V 20amp remote switch box until after I bought it.

Actually I like the iVac 20 amp remote switch, but after this Iím having a hard time trusting iVac.

I had a problem with Grizzly. I bought a 10" ultra fine saw blade thinking that it would leave the wood as smooth as a planer blade. It didn't and every piece had to have the edges sanded or planed. I complained to Grizzly and was told to send the blade back and they would test it. If it proved defective they would accept the return. I told them that it wasn't defective it cut just fine it just didn't leave a perfectly smooth finish like the ad suggested that it would. The guy said basically tough luck unless it was defective they wouldn't take it back . At the same time I had also bought a few bandsaw blades in order to get as much in as I could since I was paying shipping charges . The band saw blades turned out to be junk. Never again would I buy anything from Grizzly. Any company that won't stand behind their products is not going to get my business. You think a company is good until you have to deal with them. Then you really find out how good they are. If you have bought something from Grizzly and have had good luck with it and you have never had to deal with them then you probably feel that you are dealing with a good company. The real test is how they treat you when they have to shell out a refund.

I found this on their website and it does not say anything about electrical stuff:

"What is Grizzly's return policy?
Items may be returned for exchange or refund within 30 days of purchase. The merchandise must be unused and in new, resalable condition and returned in all its original packaging. All returns are subject to a 10% restocking fee. Shipping and handling charges are not refundable.
If you wish to return an item to us, please call us at (800) 523-4777 or email us at [email protected] to obtain a Return Authorization number. We will provide you instructions for shipping the item back to us
."

Maybe I should complain about the Customer service person who replied back

Oh forget about the iVac they are slippery folks and I donít trust them at all now. The iVac Pro Tool #T24015NA does not operate alone you have to also buy the iVac Pro Switch 115 Volt - 20 Amp #S11520NA at $70

Well I just got an email from Grizzly apologizing for the misunderstanding and they offered to exchange it for something else. I just donít know what I want.

I need to get this dust collection working, but Iíve bought two switches so far and neither worked. Iím an electrician with all the supplies to run an elaborate power control system, but I have so much stuff packed into my little shop, it will take me forever to pull it all out into the drive way to make room to work.
Right know I have to open my garage door to reach the switch every time I want to use it.

Well I guess Iíll have look through Grizzlyís catalog to see what I need.
