Default Great Deal on 8" Grizzly Jointer $595

I don't often post, but I reply to a post here and there. I thought this deal was good enough to pass along.

Mike if I have done something I shouldn't have just take it down and I apologize.

Anyway I have been saving the money to upgrade my Planer and Jointer. Decided on the 15" Planer and a 6" Jointer. Decided on Grizzly a while back, because I have a TS by them that I am very happy with and so far their price to quality ratio works nicely for me.

A few days ago I got on the Grizzly site and saw this -

G0656PB 8" x 72" Jointer 3 HP w/ Mobile Base, Polar Bear Series® - Paint Blemish

I called and asked what the blemish was, but they didn't know and I decided at that price I really didn't care. I told her they could have painted it purple. I put it on hold so I could free up the money.

Yesterday I got a coupon from them for 10% off my next purchase, so today I pulled the trigger and ordered the 8" Jointer and a 15" Planer.

I hope I am not bothering anyone and that no one feels like I am pushing somebodies product. It is just such a good deal I wanted to share it with the guys/gals in the forum.

Happy Routing,
Shorts

Golly Fred, that's a great thread and great news, so happy for you. You really made a good decision about getting the 8" jointer instead of a 6". I made that mistake if it is a mistake, I have learned to buy six inch wide lumber. Anyway, in my opinion, this is the kind of thread and news that I really like to read about. Hope you will keep us posted on the arrival, the set up, and the results that you get. I, like you, really am happy with Grizzly tools too. Wish I could justify buying one of their TS but my present saw does such a good job I just can't make the switch. Anyway, good for you Fred.

I saw a thread on another site where a guy bought one of these and assembled it. There was a spot of green paint missing on the back of the base just larger than a quarter.

Mine comes in tomorrow and I hope I get that lucky

I saw a similar post on another forum where a guy posted pics of his. The paint blemish on his machine was minor and on the back of the machine. If I could get 220 out in the garage, I would be posting my current jointer on CL and ordering this thing asap.

Fred, this is the place to talk about stuff like this. I hope you are very happy with your purchase. If you just want to make people aware of a good deal post it in the Bargain Bin. IE.. Amazon is selling the Bosch 1617EVSPK for $190 right now.

Well there were some issues. Not anything that appears to be Grizzly's fault, but instead Fedex.

The blemish was a bit worse than the ones I saw on another thread, but nothing that bothered me. There were some rough spots and areas where the paint was chipping off. For the price it was easily overlooked.

On the other hand though Fedex delivered the beds late (lost them in transit). When it arrived it should have been on two pallets and was on one (over half the beds hanging loose off a pallet) and the bottom of the crate was almost completely separated from the rest of the crate. So you can imagine I was a bit nervous over what may have been tweeked and how bad. I contacted Grizzly, let them know, and I expect to hear from them today.

I did the assembly anyway and the fence is out of parallel with the beds by 7/8" over the length of the fence. That is way to much to shim. The beds are out and I expected to have to tune them in, but the far end (away from blades) of the out feed table has a pretty severe droop and I am not sure that the gibs have enough adjustment to them to correct that problem.

So I am a bit sad at this point. I know it isn't a Grizzly problem, but instead the freight company that broke the machine. I have worked with Grizzly in the past and have every confidence that they will correct the problem, but it does mean I will have to wait a while before I get to play with my new jointer.

BTW there were also some freight issues with a 15" Planer I had delivered, so all in all a pretty frustrating couple of days. (Fred starts looking for his "chill" pills

I will let you guys know how it all turns out.
