Default What a disappointment

After watching videos of the Makita RTO700CX2/3 I decided that I had to have one. Imagine my surprise when told this morning that the kit is not and will not be available in Australia, only the router with fixed base and possibly the plunge base in a year or two! Not one to give up easily I went on to eBay and bought one from America and a 3000watt electronic step down "transformer" from within Australia so I shall be in a position soon to post a review based on actual experience.

Makita RT0700CX3 1HP Corded Compact Router Kit | eBay
3000W Stepdown Transformer Step Down 240V 110V Black | eBay

BobJ is the poster child for router addiction, but Harry is on his way!

Hope your new router is worthy of the effort it takes to aquire it

Marc, since the tour of my shed was posted there have been big changes, when I have time I'll do a new tour and of course post it here.

Doug, I've had my present Makita trim router for something like 35+ years, it's time for a change and this Makita RTO700CX3 looks very exciting. Unlike my good friend Bobj3 who has more routers than many shops and the bulk of them are not delegated to a specific task, mine are, trimmer for trimming, 3612C on skis, Rp2301FC for all serious hand held work and the Triton TRA001 is under the table. I shall be disposing of the old trim router, the 3600BR and the Bosch POF52 as these three will be replaced by the Makita kit. I almost forgot, I also have a Dremel with plunge base for use on the wood lathe.

Why isn't it available in Australia?

They reckon that we are only about 2% of their market and seem to think that the average Aussie woodworker has deep pockets but short arms!

Harry, just asking, could you have got a 240v model from UK?

BTW, I can collect the transformer for you, you can have the router kit delivered to my address and i will bench test it for you.........VBG.

Nice try my friend! I did try to find a kit in the UK but only found the router with fixed base for $321.00 delivered, hardly a bargain.

Harry I am disappointed, I actually own that little makita router and it is a sweet unit, I am not happy that there are so many sweet extra parts that are available with it overseas, I will have to see if I can get the extra bits without the router that I already have. Neville
