Default I Think That I Have Asked Thia Before

My question is about my computer. When I begin to edit some text and need to add a word for example, when I first start doing the editing I can put the cursor where I want to add the word and just start typing and the new text just pushes the text to the right of text and all is fine. Then something that I do switchs things so than when I need to type in new word, the typing types over and erases the text to the right of the cursor. So I have to create space for the new word and then after that is done I go to where the word should end and backspace until the area that is blank is removed.

I looked on the wev for the way to fix it, but what I thought that I read was tried, it didn't work for me, I am sure that it is operator error, but I don't know what to do and am wondering if anybody can tell me what to do.

Hi Jerry

The insert key toggles between insert and overtype.

Your keyboard should have a key marked "Insert" or "Ins" or similar. It's often around the delete key or pg up/dn keys

Hitting that key alternates between inserting letters and replacing letters as you type. I always keep mine at the insert mode and use the delete or backspace key
