I recently began building Matthias Wandel's band saw. For those of you who are not familiar with the build, the link is below: Homemade bandsaw (version 2)
For this build, one requires a motor. My father-in-law had an old craftsman horizontal compressor. I will use the motor from that.
My only problem (after getting the pulley off) is finding out the specs of the motor. It's plenty large, but how large? There's no name plate. There is one sticker on the motor that says "2HP" and another with a wiring diagram to rewire the motor from 120 to 240 volts.
The model number of the compressor is 919.176120
With this number, I found replacement parts for this model, including the motor: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/part...76120&keyId=48
The only problem is that this page doesn't list the motor specifications!
My search continued. This last webpage listed a motor part number (MO-6226) and this substitution (Z-D20620).
A search for the part number came up with this third party dealer: Z-D20620 3 Hp Motor MASTERTOOLREPAIR.COM
Victory, I think. This page lists specifications. However: the page says that this motor is suitable for three craftsman products. None of them are my craftsman product. Is this the right motor? If so, why is my compressor model number not listed? Also, why does the page say that the motor is 3HP when the actual motor has a 2HP sticker? Is it 3HP after rewiring? Do I even have the right motor?
The motor in each of the pictures listed looks identical to my actual motor.
Can anyone help identify my motor specs?
