Default Is it just me or is something wrong in this picture?

Okay gang. I was asked if I could do a sign like this one. I asked if they wanted it identical to it but no answer as of yet. Then I started to really look at it; is it just me or does this sign look "off"? Every time I go back to the picture I still see it: it looks off-centered with respect mostly to the arching of the name. Beautiful work but off just the same. (At least to me anyway...)

looks like they over compensated for the picture on the left....

You're right Barb, the 'Andersons' has too much mass for the rest of it...it draws the eye. I think I'd delete the Right hand lower scene.
Maybe make a print and cut the elements apart in order to play with them?

I usually don't pick apart other peoples work but -since you asked.
Too much space between 'The' and 'Andersons'.
The names should have been centered in the sign then added the images. Too many images also makes the sign look cluttered. Need some 'negative space'.

*Phew!!!* Then it's NOT just me lol
Arching a name is not easy. But When doing a name like this, you have to do the arched last name first, then the first names, getting them centered correctly. Once you have that, then you integrate the artwork around the name. You're right, Dan. The arch in the name is exactly what was getting me. The end of the name needs to be tilted up, which throws the whole thing off. Too many eagles, too, in my opinion. Unless they wanted them on either side of the name, in which case, that's way off, as well. Oh well. Guess I'm just waiting to see what he says. I didn't tell him all the problems I saw with his example; and not so sure I want to do a sign with all that acrylic. Lots of extra work, that is...

Me, neither, Ted. But I needed to know if it was just me, or what, and I'm not trying to "bash" anyone's work, as we all make boo boo's. And the artwork and design is beautiful, but the arch is just off, and I wonder if this was the routers first try or if they just didn't see it, or... well, anything could be the reason, really.

Thanks for the input. I feel better about my assessment of the sign.

The Andersons follows a different arc than the groove which throws it off balance.

Someone I consider a master woodworker once told me that a master woodworker is not someone who never makes mistakes. He is someone who is able to cover them up so that no one can tell.

Hi Barb.
I would do so that the "the" would be on top center alone but with smaler font. "Anderson" with bigger on the next line because I would think that that is the "thing". The sign is adwrtising something that the Anderson's are doing, and then their names (j&j)under the last name with a font size (similar or ) smaler as "Anderson" but not as smal as "the". Depending of the size of the sign i would lift up two of the pictures one on each side of "the" and leave the house picture centerd on the bottom.
That's what I would do.

Hi Barb, looks to me like the height of the right edge is also shorter than the left. Possible less distance from right edge to border line than on the left.
