Default Microsoft One Note

I just wondered if there were any regular users of One Note who could answer a few questions. Thanks.

I used it infrequently, mainly for the ability to screen capture....

Don't use any other option....

Windows 7 has the snipping tool, so I use that more often these days.

Default One Note Questions

Well I just discovered it and I'm a note taker so I thought this could be good. I generally keep a journal of my woodworking projects. You know info like when the work was done, where the pattern came from our was it my design, what materials are used, where I got them, finishing schedule, issues etc. Worse I keep a journal when I'm on vacation.

Anyway I have a desktop PC with Windows 7 HP and Office 2013. I also have a laptop, again Windows 7 HP but Office 2010. And finally a new Nokia Lumia 520 with Windows 8 and the mobile version of Office.

My understanding is, any info is stored in the Cloud or Microsoft's version of that.

1. Can I sync the 3 devices? (I'd be pretty happy if I could get the computers on the same page. I don't use a phone the way young people do.)
2. If yes, can you explain how?
3. I understand trying to delete a 'note' is a nightmare, true? Can you give a brief explanation of how to make that happen?
4. What are the security risks with using a Cloud for storage? I've always tried to keep my stuff here on my computer or an external hard drive.

No rush, whenever you get a chance to reply is good.

I appreciate whatever you can do to assist. Thanks.

Good idea on keeping the info BUT when MS, APPLE and etc get everything in the Cloud, which is their intent, you can guess where the price to retrieve your notes will go. I keep my notes in a file cabinet or on a thumb drive. Call me old fashion..........

Separate issue, Berry, but I do not store anything on the "Cloud". Not even iTunes..

Thanks to the cloud storage, you can sync to as many devices as needed. I use it between 4 devices now.

2. If yes, can you explain how?

Easy, just have it on each device logged into your OneDrive (formerly SkyDrive) account. It otherwise is done automatically.

3. I understand trying to delete a 'note' is a nightmare, true? Can you give a brief explanation of how to make that happen?

I haven't needed to delete many notes, but I believe it does save the deleted note to another area of your OneDrive account.

4. What are the security risks with using a Cloud for storage? I've always tried to keep my stuff here on my computer or an external hard drive.

I wouldn't be putting credit card numbers, SSN numbers, or any other personal information on it. It is only as secure as the service that Microsoft provides.

Well my son-in-law was over this weekend and it took him just a couple minutes to get all 3 devices sharing One Note. So I'm golden, let's see now if it was worth the effort. I'll start putting my journal entries for a couple months. Thanks to all who helped.

What a great forum!

Dang, in the deep south the "sync" is where we go to wash our hands. Those dadburn west coast nerds have done gone and co-opted our language. lol
