Default Yet another reason not to travel

Not referring to Malaysia Airlines, but traveling in the states .

I was just watching this on tv , forfeiture abuse?

I wasn't aware of this law . You know if someone's guilty , that's one thing , but this is freaking scary !
I expect this in Mexico , but not crossing a border 40 minutes south of my home

Taken - The New Yorker

Totally inappropriate on a router forum.

Dennis, Rick has posted in the Lobby section, which is described as:
"the place to chat about whatever suits your fancy. This could be the electric dog polisher you just bought, the weather, anything goes (within the limits of good taste)."

Tell you the truth it may be better to get this removed . I live pretty close to the border and maybe a trooper from Washington state may come up here and I'll be taken away for posting this . Ever since 911 we have lost all our rights to legal council . They can pretty much come and take you away now and no one would be the wiser

No! Do not remove this thread!
Any way to make citizens aware of infringements on their Liberty is a good thing.
If it somehow offends other folks' sensibilities, that it happens to pop up on a woodworking website, that is simply an indication of how fragile the concept of Democracy really is.
You all know the old saying about History repeating itself...

Actually the United States is, a republic, not a democracy. Accurately defined, a democracy is a form of government in which the people decide policy matters directly through town hall meetings or by voting on ballot initiatives and referendums. A republic, on the other hand, is a system in which the people choose representatives who, in turn, make policy decisions on their behalf. we do pledge allegiance "and to the republic for which it stands"

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Rick.

Many people still believe that the USA is the "Land of the free and the home of the brave".

They do not know, understand or appreciate that they are actually living in a Police State.

This topic may attract some comment, so lets keep it civil.....

Very interesting article Rick. It is unfortunate that we often have more to fear from those that are sworn to protect us than we do from those who intend to do us harm financially or physically. A person can protect them self from a criminal- except here in Canada. In many cases people here who threatened force in order to protect themselves and their families and property have been charged with more serious crimes than the criminals. And then there is the incident during the High River, Alberta flooding a couple of years ago where the RCMP kicked doors down in the evacuated homes and confiscated legally owned firearms. We aren't immune from police abuse either.

Someone I consider a master woodworker once told me that a master woodworker is not someone who never makes mistakes. He is someone who is able to cover them up so that no one can tell.

Wow... just, wow. I'm just at a total loss for words here.

Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on
or by imbeciles who really mean it.

^^^Extremely good point .
Recently one of our employees was out shopping with his wife and kids and they turned around to go to another store on the way home from shopping and the RCMP pulled them over.
Why, because they said it seemed like he was taking an unusual route home ? I would expect this in North Korea but not in Canada . I can't wait to see what's next .

Changing the subject , Harper gave OB permission to fly all there unused drones over Canada , the 1400 that have been removed from Afghanistan . They claim they will be unarmed but I call BS . I bet you soon you will see houses blowing up here and we will be told it was due to a gas leak. The area will be heavily guarded till they remove any evidence of a side winder missile hitting the premises .

Yet another pet peeve of mine is recently on cbc radio I heard we're going to let the police from the USA set up shop in Canada .
They are allowed to take anyone during the night and NOT go threw our judicial system . They said though on the other hand that the RCMP can setup shop down there in order to catch Canadians there in pursuit of , but the only kicker is we have to go threw there judicial system if we want to take anyone back across the border . Always seems like a one way deal to me , or am I overthinking this as usual?

Ok ,I never insulate
