Question Local knowledge required....road trip Southern USA

Hi all,

SHMBO and I are planning another trip to USA in May 2015.

Present plan is to fly to Las Vegas, then fly to New York then back to Sydney.

Plan "B" is to fly to Las Vegas, hire a RV and drive across lower US (mainly I40) to North Carolina, up to Pennsylvania, then to New York.
So far, I have got to
Kingman, AZ

Williams, AZ
Albuquerque, NM
Amarillo, TX
Oklahoma City, OK
Little Rock, AR
Kennett, MO/ Memphis, TN

Do not want to take too many days as hire rate adds up...LOL.

Any suggestions on the best route and good RV parks on the way.

Still very much in the planning stage at the moment.

Sorry James. I live in North Carolina, but don't do camping, so don't know any campgrounds, or a good route to give you. But do hope you have a good trip.

New York, who would want to go to New York, the city that is?

Looks like you will be running along I- 40, go online and have KOA campgrounds send a directory book to you , most of their places are fairly decent they are all over the country.
You can make reservations ahead of time

James, I suggest you drive an extra hour north from Albuquerque to Santa Fe. It's the state capital and a city of about 67,000 as opposed to the big city of Albuquerque with a population over 550,000. There are great restaurants, wonderful art and native american craft galleries, and it's an easy town to walk around in.

If you like history, San Miguel Chapel in Santa Fe is said to be the oldest standing church structure in the US. The adobe walls were constructed around A.D. 1610.

There is an RV park just outside of town. Here's a link to their website: Santa Fe Skies RV Park - Santa Fe, New Mexico

Thanks John.

I have been researching KOA for some time, but they don't have RV parks in some of the places we want to visit, like Kennett, MO.

I have ordered a "good sam/Woodalls" directory from Amazon...

James.. should you go with plan "B" , here is something well worth looking into going north out of North Carolina..

James...maybe you'll bring some warm weather with you. I have some friends that Camp in Pennsylvania and New York. If you tell me where in NY you will be I might be able to give you some suggestions...or maybe a glass of wine or Espresso if you get close enough...
