I thought they sit in your yard after your sons move out.

Man what a waste tho. Yes, the metal will be recycled, but here the engine, transmission, doors, whatever, is removed first, for resale, 'then' the car is crushed, and hauled off for shredding. They have U-Pick places, where customers go thru and pull off any parts they want, then pay a reduced price for them - price a used door against a new door, used is tons less expensive and if you are fortunate you will get the same paint color.

I'm reminded of when, in my teens with cars costing me no more that £25.00 I would spend many happy Sunday afternoons in the car wreckers yard.
