I'm into wooden boats, steam powered mostly, but a bit on sail power too. I read about the total restoration of an old sail boat, not huge, but fair size. They called it a restoration, but the wood was rotted, sprung, and pretty much trash. When they finished 'restoring' the boat, the only original piece of the boat in it was a piece, maybe four foot long, with the date it was built carved in it by one of the original builders, the rest of it was new, from fastenings, to wood, you name it, it was new. I wouldn't call it a restoration myself, but because of that one piece of original wood, they were allowed to register using the original build date. Never could figure that one out.
