Herb, we finally got some rain this morning. Light, won't amount to much, but better than nothing. Clouds came from your direction, so surprised it skipped you. My town has an atmospheric oddity, there seems to be an updraft that drives clouds away so we can have them all over the place and we'll have a large area of clear skies above. Wish we'd spent all that fast rail to nowhere money on a pipeline from Canada. We could swap solar power for water.

We have the same thing here. Locals call it a banana belt. It can rain buckets 3 miles away and, we get a few drops...if that. I've driven through torrents coming from town and get within a mile of our place and it just stops.

Sun's breaking through and looks like a hot, muggy day ahead. We're ringed on 3 sides by mountains and tall hills. The mountains nearly always fare pretty well with the monsoons.

Clouds? We got clouds. Big, white, fluffy ones. No rain in sight.

Sure hope we don't have as many fires as last year. We have that big DC10 tanker that flies out of our former air force base. It was gone a lot last year. Something like 50 tons of retardant every drop. Almost a mile of coverage on the downhill side of a ridgeline so the fire can't jump it. One good thing about the desert, it doesn't burn.

Only burns your hide if you stay out too long. At 3,000 feet, that's about 10-15 minutes at my age and then a nap is required as well as some cool air. My office shed has a shady porch and our patio area is covered as well, but the heat (and cold) can be relentless. My office shed AC unit is not large, but makes the room cool in a couple of minutes. Keeps the computers and printers happy too.
