I used Sketchup (the free version) for a while, and found that the most difficult concept was to try to draw a 3-dimensional object, on a 2-dimensional computer screen. Once you get over that, it becomes fairly easy.
Not sure how you've attempted to learn the product but there are tutorials available - here's a link to the SketchUp website tutorials:
