lol Gene. You just gave me the opportunity to say something that's been bugging me for like a week or more. Let me explain:

A schoolmate of mine announced (on Facebook) this year that after some serious soul-searching, she's decided to become an Atheist. Okay. If that's how you feel, then fine, that's how you feel.

Well, since the Season has started, she's been posting about gifts, and how she's celebrating Christmas, yadda yadda ya... and I'm thinking: "You went Atheist. Christmas is the Celebration of Christ, who is the Son of God, and you don't believe in God. How do you celebrate Christmas when you don't believe in God?" Now mind you, I'm keeping my trap/keys shut as she goes on, but..... It's buggin' the SH*T outta me... (sorry. Had to get that off my chest lol thanks.)

As you were, and same to you, Gene

Not sure that 'christmas' as it is now has anything to do with christ. Just another means to get GIVEN things, which is what our newer generation seem to want.

Apparently the UK is a christian based country, so we're told, yet more than 50 percent say they have no belief in any god.

My goodness, what a thread that could expand to a number of ideas and concepts. I find it interesting that this time of year has four religious celebrations- Christmas, Hanukkah, Ramadan, Kwanzaa, if my memory serves me.

I have noticed over the years that those that don't celebrate the true meaning of Christmas are always ready to receive gifts and be among the first to take the holiday with pay. It is a sad world we live in.

I'm sorry, but I'm offended by the apologetic way you wish us a Merry Christmas. Christmas IS a religious holiday. Get over it! Each person or family can choose whether to celebrate it or not, but why should we be apologetic about it? I'm not offended if someone tells me to have a good weekend, a good morning, a good evening, a good day or a good night. I'm not Jewish, but I take no offense if someone wishes me a Happy Hanukkah. I'm not Muslim, but when I was in Afghanistan, we were polite enough not to eat and drink in front of the Muslims during their week of fasting. I believe it is the epitome of intolerance to become offended if someone wishes you a Merry Christmas. The more we cater to intolerance, the more intolerant the world becomes.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!
And a Lump of Coal to you if you're offended by that!

kind of hate to disagree but I am an atheist, and have been because I had a drunk preacher for a father, spend 13 months in Vietnam and never ever prayed to that god, have never taken Christmas, or for that matter Thanksgiving off work as I have always let the guy that work for me take it off to be with their familys and I agree with Barb that those who play the give me game while looking done their nose at those who believe different them then are contemptible. I'll be working again this year, so I think you might just need to meet a higher class of atheist. :-)
