When I had my St Bernard I would sometimes take him to the ice cream stand because he really loved ice cream. One day I had to park quite a distance from the stand because they were busy. So I put the dog's leash on and got him out of the car to take him to the stand. About half way there we rounded the front of a car and were confronted with a 3 year old boy carrying an ice cream cone. The boy held the cone above his head to protect it, but that was just above nose level for my St Bernard. It disappeared in one gulp before I could do anything to stop it. The little guy was so surprised that he didn't do anything for a moment, and then he started to cry. I told him that it was OK and to follow me back to the stand and I would buy him another cone, but I had to buy three. The first one for the boy, then one for the St Bernard, and then one for me. I teased the dog with his while the boy got far enough away to be safe, then gave the dog his second cone while I ate mine. They didn't last long.
