Default Loss of hearing cured

Well it's finally happened I have to inform you eager beavers out there that I have succumbed to Tinnitus. I was surprised when it came upon me. I always thought it was a progressive ailment brought about by your work environment which intrigued me as a I worked at a College with low level sounds. I have to put it down to my my retirement and love of woodwork, and the amount of time my wife insists I spend in the workshop. It's very intermittent in that I don't suffer with it while actually working away. It's only when I am in need of a cup of tea and head for the house. It starts almost as soon as I enter, a high pitched whining sound that seems to be behind me that follows me around the house as go looking for my wife, who I eventually find almost at the same time as my hearing returns, she's a gem. I finally deduced that it must be a work related industrial problem because I only suffer from it when I have my work clothes on in the house.
I told the wife about and after serious thought she suggested she brought my cuppa out to me. Problem solved. I told you she was a gem. It's early days but I think I'm cured.

I love a happy ending! Tinnitus rears its ugly head when the ambient noise level is lowest. Your shop probably has enough ambient noise to drown it out. Good luck with keeping it at bay.

In the U.S. I recently read about a hearing aid that can neutralise the tinnitus. I was looking as my S/O has had it since the invention of the walkman, he played it too loud. The UK haven't intriduced the hearing aid so I'm not too sure how good it is or if they're actually seen the thing. Apparently, as we get older our normal hearing deteriorates and we compensate by straining and this can enhance the tinnitus.

I had tinnitus for years but after I got out of some high stress circumstances it disappeared. On occasion I have a slight ringing in my right ear but can hear much better now than I could 10 years ago. Stress is a bad thing.

Colin I think the problem is more widespread than you may think.

Someone I consider a master woodworker once told me that a master woodworker is not someone who never makes mistakes. He is someone who is able to cover them up so that no one can tell.
