    My Shop
My shop is located in the garage of our house. The space is roughly 13' x 22', but it is shared with the laundry area so it is not entirely mine. This is no problem, the shop end of the garage is located at the front by the garage door, and most of my larger tools are mobile so I can raise the door and move into the driveway to use the table saw, miter saw, or router table if more space is needed. It is also possible to use all of these tools inside as well with my current space layout.

    A few details about myself.
    Biography
Hello. My name is Duane. I work as a maintenance technician for an apartment complex. I have a strong interest in wood working for making furniture and other useful things from wood. I'm very handy with tools, and I can think on my feet and solve problems quickly. My biggest problem is that I think too complex. Sometimes simple is the best answer. At least that's what my wife says.

Back in 2001 I married a wonderful, supportive wife who encourages my wood working hobby but she thinks I have too many tools. Oddly enough, she suggests me buying more several times a year and always insists on it being the best available in our price range. Go figure.

I don't have one specific interest in woodworking. I make anything at all, especially functional useful items which is probably what I enjoy the most, but I also make decorating items that are only woodworks due to being made of wood, such as country decor that my wife and I both love. Beyond that, it could be anything from a pencil cup to a queen sized bed like the one I made that we sleep in now.

When I'm not working on the job or in the shop, I'm usually fishing. I'm an avid bass fisherman, though only modestly good at it. :D Well, that's a little bit about me.

    Favorite Router
My favorite router is a DeWalt DW618PK combo kit. It seems just about perfect. I have two of these now, one for freehand use and one in a table. I like this one the best due to its quick and easy depth adjustment, which is very accurate. Also these routers feel very balanced during use, very powerful, and very well made. If I could change anything about it, I would add dust collection to the fixed base, and LED lights. I am one of the rare people who enjoys the use of a fixed base out of the table and I find these features lacking on this model. The smaller DeWalt DWP611PK compact router is very similar to the one above in terms of the plunge base, and I have also picked up one of these as well for light duty use. It addresses the two issues that the DW618 has by including LED lights and has available dust collection for both of the fixed and plunge bases, which I also bought. This little router is a dream tool. Just a pure pleasure to use. As for the lack of dust collection and LED lights for the larger fixed base, keep watching, I'm working on that!
