Default Introductions

Hi all,

Just thought I'd introduce myself.

I'm a displaced Canuck who's been living in The Land Down Under for the last 22 years and loving it. I grew up in Toronto (east end Scarborough to be exact) and loved woodshop and metalshop when I was in junior high (I won the Industrial Arts award when I graduated). During high school I was more of an academic geek and drifted away from the manual arts side and towards science (marine biology, to be exact).

Anyway, fast-forward 35 years and I've finally got a nice-sized shed in the backyard, so I'm looking to get back into woodworking as a hobby/DIY. Upon joining this forum, I haven't bought a router yet; however, I'm looking for advice from anyone here. Plus, I'd be keen to learn any good tricks/skills with the router once I buy one. I haven't got a huge budget, but I'm also not a tradesman producing high-quality furniture. I'm just keen to develop my skills with a bit of practise.

anyway, I'll be posting my first question after posting this.

Welcome to the forum Doug. You certainly sound like an interesting fellow . There’s a great group here very willing to help .
They have this strange infatuation with insulation however

Greetings, Doug. You'll find this a very welcome place. My son and his family moved to Scarborough about five years ago. (I see you spelled it correctly) It was then that I learned to stop calling it Scarberia. I grew up in the Toronto suburbs ( Weston, Mount Dennis) but I've made my home in Oakville for the last 51 years. It takes me about an hour on good days to drive across Toronto to Scarborough these days. Funny how you can get used to some punishments. Stick around, you'll never stop learning.

Welcome to both of you. Doug we have quite a few members from Oz on the forum.

Someone I consider a master woodworker once told me that a master woodworker is not someone who never makes mistakes. He is someone who is able to cover them up so that no one can tell.
