Hi, just joined. Found this site looking for ideas while working on building a router cabinet. I went with a Norm Abrams style cabinet. I had some questions on where was best to place the lift in the top as I have seen some with it close to the front. I decided on just a slight ways back from centered.

Been building things for many years. It’s a great way to relax. But really needed a cabinet for one of my favorite tools!

Glad I found the forum.

Welcome to the forum! Add your first name to your profile to clear the N/a in the side panel and so we'll know what to call you. Add your location to your profile, as well.

We do like photos so show us your shop, tools, projects, etc. whenever you're ready. What sort of woodworking are you planning or doing?

I think I got the profile fixed.

I’ll get some pics together. I have been building all sorts of things over the years. Small boxes, like tea boxes, side tables, display cabinets, frames etc. General house projects also like bathroom vanity, barn doors. Sort of comes in waves when I have available time. This is more a hobby for me, I’m not a pro.

Welcome to the forum Ken. I built my table as well and it was based on Norm's original design but I didn't build the fence or top but on almost all tables I have seen just back from center or centered seems to be the common location. You want good support of the wood being worked on for control. Be great to see some of these boxes and other projects. As some have replied, I think the majority of us are hobbyist who really enjoy working with wood.
