Welcome to the forum Paul. I'll leave it to others more local to recommend a good router type available in your part of the world except to say, I have a 3-1/4 hp Triton mounted in a table and find it will cope with anything I've thrown at it so far. You might tell us what router type you're looking for (hand-held or table mounted).

I've cut it twice and it's still too short! But only at one end.

Welcome to the forum Paul, we are glad to have you join us. My wife has Irish blood in her veins, so I already feel a connection

Paul, it will be hard to advise you of the best router as there are so many good ones out there. I personally use the Dewalt 618 in the Oak Park table and have been extremely satisfied. Many folks like to build their own router table and I think that is really the best way to go if you have the desire to do so. I purchased mine simply because it saved me time so I could work on other things. A router is something you should go see in person so you can experience how it feels in your hands. I would look at no less than 2 1/4 hp in a router for table use.

Hopefully this helps a little and I am sure others will add to this as well.
