Hi Folks,

I,m new to this type of coms but hope in time to get the hang of things. I have recently retired from paid work having owened & run a small production woodturning business for 30 odd years.

Now being back to basic equipment I find that I have a problem cutting flutes on some Canadian Maple piano legs that I have just turned. I have routers & cutters & a small hand lathe, 57inch centres by 12 inch dia, but I do not have a suitable jig to atchieve the finished job so I thought I would try the Forum.

Can any body help please!

Welcome, Bruce! Glad you joined us. I did a search on finewoodworking.com and found several jigs. On some of the pages and videos you need to be a member, but they have a 14 day free trial you can use to view them. Here is the link to the search I did; Click Here

There are a few of them, but I think the third one down is more like what you are wanting.

Welcome Bruce,
You didn't say if your lathe has an indexable head. Are the flutes spiral or straight? Not much needed to build a jig if they are straight. If the lathe doesn't have a index, you can make one.
Let us know how they turn out.

Cut it twice, and it's still too short!
