Default Template guides question

Hello, My name is Rick and live on the Western Slope of Colorado. I'm a carpenter and have finally pulled out my Porter Cable 4212 which I purchased years ago but have never used.
I'm running into some problems with the template guide part of things...
I have the needed template guides from P/C and a Bosch tempate adaper quide Part # RA1100. My problem seems to be that there is a fair bit of play with the bosch template quide in the router.
Can I make this template guide not move around or will I need some other type of template quide.
Thanks

Hi Rick

Sounds like you are using a Bosch router with PC dovetail jig, if that's the case pickup the item below and put the Bosch adapter back it the box, they suck big time.

Rick Not familiar with the Bosch and the template adapter guide part I usually purchase the dedicated guide for the router I have such as Makita or Hitachi, but I am sure there are many here who can assist you getting what you want to do with a router. Just a reminder; there is more that can be achieved when the router is held in the plunge mode, with the aid of the guides; check out the material below.

Hi Rick:

The template guide should not move at all. In addition to the solutions offered by the others (which I concur with) there is another option that is perhaps better -- Pull off the baseplate(s) and replace them with the OakPark baseplate and brass template guides. The brass guides are safer, less prone to come apart, and available in a broad range of sizes from both OakPark and LeeValley. Use only the 1 1/2" guides (with 1 3/4" counterbore) and you can get sizes almost to the magic 40mm size that Template Tom and his protègé, Harrysin, swear by Also the investment is not wasted when you change routers. Merely add a baseplate and continue using your existing guides.
