Talking Introduction

Hi everyone,

I am a new woodworker and get confused frequently. No one else in my family works with wood so I need help on almost every project. The router is one of my favorite tools; right next to the compound miter saw. I recently purchased a Porter-Cable Dovetail Jig and so far all I have created is a mess. I'll post a picture if I ever get nice looking joints on all four corners.

Hi Brenda,
What type of joint are you doing on the jig? What problem are you having?

I'm working on through dovetails in #2 pine boards. My problem is not with the joints but with the tops/bottoms not being flush. I've read the instruction manual so many times the pages are about to fall out. I ripped the boards down to 5 1/4" and that didn't help. My brother the machinist helped me by spending hours fiddling with this/that then fianally adjusting the left/right stops. I think we finally got the problem worked out (I think). The manual does not say to use both sides of the jig; it only says to adjust the left side stop to the material. It's a huge learning curve BUT I'm having fun. My goal is to make my husband a box out of red oak for some new handtools he just bought.
