Default porter cable quality

another 890 router down, after less than a hour of use. hopefully this one will be covered under warranty, porter cable used to stand for quality and dependability....what happened ? I have a number of P-C tools that will head for the scrap bin. For the professional woodworkers/cabinet builders, the 890 is not designed for you...Mike/NC

Hi Mike, Welcome.
I agree with some of what you are saying about the PC quality. They have seem to decline from what they used to be but the brand is still a workhorse like the 690's & the 3-3/4hp models. Don't know about the model you have though. I will still grab a PC690 for most flush trimming operations.

Have a nice & safe day!

that's not very reassuring. I bought the 893pk based on reviews from various woodworking rags. I guess I'll just have to hope mine lasts.

I've got 3 890's right now, one from 2004, a used one I have no idea how old it is, and one from last year, so far no problems. I have a 690 from '96 that doesn't see as much work as it used to, but is still a stellar performer.

I think odds are your unit will be ok!
