Default My First Post

I am fairly new to woodworking; my addiction is only about a year old, and it doesn't look like recovery is anywhere in site. I suppose that's pretty typical.
I stumbled into woodworking to address a need with my wife's school. She needed shelves, tables, sand & water tables, and other lessons. After looking at the prices in the catalogs, I felt pretty certain I could produce similar items for a lot less. Believe it or not that has been the case. The problem started when I wanted to take it to the next level, and started looking at all the projects in the woodworking magazines. You then insist on better and better quality in everything you produce. That meant better tools and lumber (spiraling out of control, I sure it's typical of the disease).
So far she's (my wife) still buying it...whew! In truth, I am enjoying my new avocation and she (and other folks) are the beneficiaries of my addiction. Oh, and I haven't been looking for a cure yet....I get around to it someday.

There is no cure. Fortunately, the symptoms are manageable, and there are many support groups to help you along the way. The most important part is to have a supporting family, which is why it's important to make at least one project for them for each major tool purchase you make.

Welcome to the forum, John.

Why do you want to cure such a fine ailment???????
