Smile New to the forum

I have recently retired and am learning more about woodworking, a hobby I did not pursue too much due to time constraints. I made my first piece of furniture two years ago (a solid mahogany TV cabinet) and that got me started into acquiring more tools and building a shop. Now I am able to build more tables and cabinets for my shop while making picture frames for my wife's hobby of oil painting. My favorite wood thus far for frames is cherry. It is very gratifying to turn a 1 X 6 piece of wood into a beautiful frame. My next project after I finish a router table is to make a desk for my wife.

Welcome, Jim.
We look forward to seeing some of your frames and the desk.
I think ten posts are required before posting pictures. Only 9 more to go.

Hi Jim, welcome.
I thought you can post a picture with less than 10 posts. You just can't post links until you reach 10. Reaching 10 posts will only take a minute or so. Go to the introductions forum & say hi to 9 more people.

Have a nice & safe day!

I do not have much cypress in this area but when I go to Florida in Jan I will look for some. It is a nice looking wood and has what I call character.

I joined the group since my brother-in-law gave me a GMC plunge router and a site referred me here. Does it perform as good as it looks.

Jim,

GMC (Global machinery Company) used to be an Australian company that went into bankruptcy in Dec 2008. GMC also owned the Triton brand. Triton was sold to a Swiss company. I do not know who bought GMC and their web site seems to want to hide the fact.

GMC was toward the bottom of the ladder as far as quality was concerned. However I have several GMC tools (table saw and planer.thicknesner) and have had no issues with them.

If you do not abuse it, it should work for you as with any cheap power tool made in PRC.

Thanks for the information on the GMC. It is my third router but I do have some use for it since I plan to use two in my router tables.
