Default Looking forward to learning my hobby better

Hi everyone. I am new to this and new to working with wood. I am learning as I go along. Have a little help will help me not to have to learn everything the hard way. I collect driftwood along the beach, not all driftwood, and I'm pretty picky about what I pick up. When I pick up driftwood, it is already so beautiful. I like to clean it up, sand down the dead parts, and use a clear poly. Like I said, I'm experimenting as I go along, but have problems identifying the types of wood I'm working with. We have a lot of cypress here in Louisiana, and I can usually identify that. But the others, it's difficult. Looking forward to learning. Thanks for this site.

Welcome Kris, Cypress is one of my favorite woods to work with, there is Cajun Cypress in Baker and another Cypress wholesaler in Port Barre if You are close to those areas as well as Hogan Hardwoods in Laffayette although they are usually a little higher than others but usually they have wood no one else around here has.... I am in Grosse Tette area Between Baton Rouge and Laffayette
