Thumbs up New to Forum - Intro

Hi!

I picked up a used router a while back, so I thought I'd join the forum. I received a friend request today. (TY!) I tried to reply to thank the person, but the forum wouldn't let me. Perhaps we could hook up on Facebook and chat.

It suggested that I introduce myself. I've had a craft business since 1978. I dabble with whatever is the latest fun thing to try, so I've gone from Macrame to Sewing to Friendly Plastic to Sculpy Clay to Jewelry making with precious metals & stones to Woodworking to Embroidery to Rug-making. Yes, I could use a warehouse/shop to store all my craft items!

I've had a Scroll Saw for about 15 years & a Table Saw for about ten. They take up my dining area, along with my grinder/polisher & jewelry equipment. RRRrrrRRR...

I'd like to do high-dollar custom furniture inlaid with precious metals & stones & exotic woods.

I recently sold a Serger that I inherited & stole (literally!) a Craftsman 315-174921 Router, a B & D Miter Saw, a Ryobi Detail Biscuit Joiner, QEP Wet Tile Saw, Dovetail Saw & 4 clamps for $91 at a yard sale.

The router had no directions, but I did find the manual online. I'm hesitant to get started with it & wish I had someone to give me the basics on it. A friend showed me how to turn it on & pointed out that it's missing the guide & wrench, but that's as far as I got. I posted on the forum when I first joined, asking if it was a decent router, but I did not get any notifications that someone had replied. Do we receive email notifications when someone replies?

I hope everyone is enjoying a COOL weekend! :-)

Sue, Welcome to the Router Forums!

Please add the information on your tools and anything else you are willing to share with the members on your "public profile". In this manner, others can look-up you and your setup to offer the best possible advice. With you being in the US, it should be very easy to locate someone in your area that can help you to get started correctly and safely. Many stores that sell woodworking tools can provide you with good advice on the use of your router. There are also several excellent VIDEOS available herein.

Unlike many power tools, the router is quite possibly the best tool for "do-it yourself amputations" and requires patience and practice to master. Everyone on this forum is in a learning mode and we like to share what we have experience with to fellow members.

We look forward to helping you as well as learning from you. You have experience in so many things it can really help us see things from a different perspective!
