Default P/C 5182 router upside down in a table

I want to build/buy a router table. I own a Porter Cable router [mod. # 518] that I think would do just great in a RT. So far not a problem I hope. However, I would also like to have a fancy lift incorporated into the router table. Perhaps a Bench Dog Prolift or equal. The specs for the Bench Dog Lift accept a 4.2 inch [4-3/16" ?] diam. motor housing. My calipers tell me my 518 housing is 4.5 plus or minus. Doesn't look good for the Bench Dog lift, but maybe there is something else?

Or maybe the lift idea is a waste of time? And are the available tables not beefy enough for the 518? So many questions...

It seems that I have more work to do...the lift idea has more than a few detractors. I think I will investigate the table options w/o a lift, and get to know the basics of the router table.

518 has a very fast spiral depth changer. A little difficult to adjust.
Notwithstanding, the single speed, will last forever.
The 5 speed (your tool) has a bad microprocessor and may not work well for long, upside down or right side up!

Default Model 5182 up side down

I assume you are working with a 5182 . If so it is a bad application up side down. The armature fan will disintegrate if a small piece of trash (screw) falls in and destroys the armature. This happened to me, so now I have a spare speed control if someone needs it.

Check out woodpeckers, they make very high quality router lifts and they make several that are specifically made for that router at 4.2 OD.
