Question Replacement gears for Craftsman 17542 fixed base router

Hi, I'm new to the forum and I was hoping someone has had some experience with fixing the poor quality rack & gear height adjustment system on my Craftsman Fixed Base Router model 17542. The gears seem to be a big problem judging from what I have seen on the forum and I too have the same issue. The router itself is excellent for the price and probably has the best soft start on the market of any router I know of regardless of price. However, the height adjustment is soooo bad, that it renders the unit as close to useless as I can express. I intend to replace the spring as suggested by many but, from what I can see, replacement gears are probably the way to go. Does anyone know of a source fro replacement gears for this unit?
thanks

You mean other than the OEM parts from Craftsman?

Otherwise...

Hi Warren. Welcome to the forum.

When you say 'replacement' parts, do you mean part from another supplier?

Thanks very much for the reply. Yes, this is what I am after, something other than the craftsman replacement parts (unless, of course they've corrected the design flaw but, somehow I doubt it
Thanks again

Thanks for your reply. Yes, that's really what I meant. Something from another supplier but, I would also entertain replacement parts from Craftsman provided they fixed the flaw.
