Default Hello from Central New York State

Hi everyone,
I am a 20+year woodworker and I do mainly scroll saw work. My work horse is the DeWalt 788 (type 1) that I bought in the late 90's. I live in central New York state, no where near NYC! For 35 years I worked for a major and only flatware company in the US. After the company moved manufacturing overseas, I went to work for a small distribution warehouse catering to sign makers, screen printers and sublimation printers. I retired at the end of 2012 to concentrate on the craft show business along with my wife who did tole painting on items I cut out for her. We did the craft show circuit for a number of years and was in the process of making our web site more of an outlet so we could slow down the craft shows. Unfortunately, that did not work out as my wife of 43 years passed away expectantly in February. So now I am trying to fill the painting void with other mediums like routeing.

Welcome Rick. I am so sorry for you loss.

We live in Central Virginia. (Richmond), though I grew up in downstate NY (Long Island)

I am also a scroller with a Type 2 DW. In addition to participating here I am also "SteveK" on Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts Message Board

Hi Rick,

Welcome aboard. I have been scrolling for about 7 years and it still is addictive. I have a DeWalt 788 Type2, which I am happy with, but it does make a lot of noise. I also have an EX21 that is the work horse of my shop, it's a good saw, but I feel way over priced. Only MY opinion.

I know it is not around the corner from you, but just so you know, the Mid Huson Chapter of the New England Woodworkers is sponsering their annual show in Hurley,NY in a few weeks. Iam not presently a member, but I will be showing 3 pieces and will sign up for membership at the show.

BE WELL

Hi Rick welcome to the forum

First, I'm so sorry for your loss, and know that your beautiful wife will be near you
watching; so talk to her (as I'm sure you do). Also know that she will be watching
so you best do good in your venture :-)

My husband's family is from New York; let's see... Gram & Granddad was at Revere,
and his Aunt was at Oneida till they left. His family is in Rome area.

I did scrolling for a time, till I found my router, and have been hooked since. I look
forward to seeing your work

Good morning Barb,
I spent 35 years at Oneida until they closed the doors. I was in the last big lay off in March of 05. My wife and I did the craft show circuit in central NY for years. I don't do much work with the router, I am mainly a scroll saw artist but I'm looking to expand into other areas of woodworking.
Thank you for your kind words.
