Default diy wood columns

I need to make some wood columns for my porch extention. roughly 12 in dia. by 10 ft
high. Would like to try fluting them. Any one tried this?

Are these round or square columns? Are the columns rough cut logs or finished ?

You seem to have two posts n/a, as I said if you make the device correctly then you can do both operations on it, turn the columns and flute them. And there will be a benefit, that is that all the columns will be exactly the same. n

I intend to glue up a series of flat boards beveled on edges to form a hollow column 10-12 inchs in dia. then flute the flats with this jig. Have done small ones before. Bevel angle must be precise for close joint on proper diameter round column.
