Default New hobby

I have just started routing. I am not even sure what to ask. I have burned wood. Had parts slung across the room. Burned up a bit. And made a few nice things. Looking for tips from others, both new and experienced. I can see where this could be one of the most useful tools in a shop. Look forward to reading what you all write.

I have a med. quality plunge router, variable speed w/ two collets. Have not used it freehand, but have a lesser expensive table that seems to great for beginners. And a beginner assortment of bits which do most of what I can handle for now

Welcome to the forum, Jim.

Parts should not fling across the room....That is a very bad safety issue.....

Check out posts on direction of feed......

Sure sounds like the board is being fed in the wrong direction.
Search YouTube for router tips.

Welcome to the forum Jim.

People have various learning styles. Some can read and take it in while others need to see it to understand. I am part of the second group. I spend a fair bit of time watching you tube videos to see how to use my router. If that style works for you I suggest searching the internet for free videos.

Thanks for the welcome and thanks for the tip about the videos. Will check them out. Also the flying parts should have read part. Once is enough. Maybe big arrows on the fence should be considered.
